The province's Minister of Education announced the initiatives on Friday.
Education Minister Krista Lynn Howell has announced two initiatives recommended through the Operating Grant Program review to improve access to early learning and child care services throughout the province. Howell says the first measure will increase the minimum enrolment threshold for regulated child care centres by 20 percent.
This change will come into effect on April 1. Regional staff from the Department of Education will work with all child care centers to maximize capacity and minimize operational impact. Howell says Government is also introducing an allowance for regulated childcare in rural areas.
Over 80 child care services will be eligible to receive the Rural and Remote Allowance.
