Fire broke out around 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

Fire has destroyed a landmark building in Deer Lake.

This morning at approximately 7 a.m., RCMP officers responded to a structure fire at the Driftwood Inn on Nicholsville Road near Main St. Out of an abundance of caution due to a large propane tank on site, officers have evacuated nearby residences and continue to have a presence. The building is also home to a Jungle Jim's restaurant.

Premier Andrew Furey, who is also the MHA for the area, also shared his thoughts online and thanked the emergency first responders on scene.

There is no immediate word on the cause of the fire or injuries.
