As part of Budget 2025, the Canadian Government is putting $81.8 billion into defense and creating close to 125,000 jobs.

The federal Conservatives are putting a push on government to “make sure NL gets a fair share of military investment.” Leader Pierre Poilievre made the announcement in St. John’s yesterday.

As part of Budget 2025, the Canadian Government is putting $81.8 billion into defense and creating close to 125,000 jobs. The plan is to build on the country’s strengths, like shipbuilding, and provinces or territories with Base and Wing communities will get advance notice of major defense projects.

Jonathan Rowe is the MP for Terra Nova-The Peninsulas and was at yesterday’s announcement. He’s been vocal for a while now to have NL included in government’s National Shipbuilding Program. Rowe says the Port of Argentia, Bull Arm and Cow Head near Marystown are all ready to begin building ships. Rowe says there are ports in Corner Brook, Stephenville and St. Anthony to include, and nothing should be off the table.

$6.6 billion is being invested into Canada’s Defence Industrial Strategy to ensure the country’s industries play a central role in this generational effort to rebuild the military.
