There’s a public information session in Buchans this evening hosted by CWP Global for a 5GW Green Energy Hub called “Project Gwinya.” It gets underway 6 p.m at the Red Indian Ground Search and Rescue on Main Street in the town. Meanwhile, CWP Global was in Corner Brook early last month to announce a memorandum of understanding between the company and the Corner Brook Port Corporation. A news release stated, “The green hydrogen hub, including a hot briquetted iron (HBI) plant in the Port of Corner Brook, will create significant long-term benefit to the region by boosting local economic activity, creating new jobs and opportunities.” It says, “The Port of Corner Brook will play an essential role in the project, not least as an export hub for the locally produced HBI that will supply steelmakers in Canada and abroad with a decarbonized iron.” The next steps for the project are to formally submit a project registration, commence the environmental assessment process, and conduct a feasibility study to assess various aspects of the proposed hub, including infrastructure, logistics, and economic impacts.
