Anstey says Atlantic Canada can play a big role, especially offshore oil and gas in NL.

The federal Conservatives have announced details of a new shadow cabinet and the MP for Long Range Mountains has a big portfolio. Carol Anstey is the new Shadow Minister for Energy and Natural Resources. She feels it’s a very important position given the moment we are in and that Canadians understand the need for development of natural resources to secure our economy and sovereignty. Anstey says Atlantic Canada can play a big role, especially offshore oil and gas in NL. She says the Prime Minister was elected on a promise of making the country a superpower…but there’s been no big projects announced.

Anstey promises don’t match the action and the regulatory environment does not match the progress that needs to happen, something stakeholders have been calling for over the past decade. She says Canada has always been a resource nation, our rural communities have been built on the natural resource sector, and we should be a leader by developing our natural resources in a way that is responsible and can provide economic security.  Anstey says that will be her approach in this new role.
