The cost of living and the cost of U.S imposed tariffs are economic pressures on the minds of many today. The Trump administration is planning to add a 25 percent tariff on all Canadian goods next week. On this week’s edition of the Plain Truth, host Paula Sheppard explores some of what’s currently happening. Her guest Lynn Kendall is a faculty member at Grenfell Campus and a Chartered Professional Account. She says when the Trump administration took over they created what’s called “a protectionist policy. Kendall says businesses are not going to absorb another 25 percent and it will be up to the consumer to pay more. She says this could lead to U.S. businesses saying they won’t buy as much from Canada, which leaves a smaller market for our products. Kendall says The Buy Canada, Buy NL, campaigns can help by focusing on what we produce, support jobs, and create a sense of loyalty. She says food produced here is about 5 percent of what we actually consume and that means imports are needed.
