Zaandaam Captain Michel Willems says it’s his first call to the port also but Holland America has been coming to Corner Brook for twenty years.

There was a special plaque exchange ceremony this morning on board the Zaandaam cruise ship marking the vessel’s inaugural call to the Port of Corner Brook. It’s also the 150th anniversary of Holland America cruise lines. Captain Michel Willems says it’s his first call to the port also but Holland America has been coming to Corner Brook for twenty years. The Captain says he expects more stops here in the future as Greenland and Iceland are becoming popular stops and this is a great place to stop along the way. Mayor Jim Parsons says Corner Brook is becoming the cruise capital of the province, especially now that there are upwards of 30 cruise ship visits here each year. Port Business development Manager Jennifer Hartley says having a cruise ship visit until the evening will mean a lot to those offering services to passengers. The Zaandaam is due to leave port at 11 o’clock tonight.
