Jackie Alcock is an artist from Corner Brook who is well known for painting store windows for several decades, creating the Deer Lake Airport Piano, the Forget-Me-Not-Blanket, colouring books, rug hookings, paintings and more. What some people may not know is that she is always looking at how things can become art. About five years ago, she connected with ALine Greeting cards as she was making Christmas card ornaments for our troops overseas. Recently, she was contacted by a friend that works for the local card company in Corner Brook who was doing away with their older cards. However, they had to be cut in half. Alcock spent from May to August cutting up thousands of greeting cards, spending about 3 hours each day at it. She says they had little bunnies, snowmen, or hearts that could be cut up and used by teachers.
Alcock says even the envelopes could be used to make little books, cards could be used to make the book covers or even to decorate the classroom. So far, she has 13 boxes (about 500 cards or more each) to the school board and local library. As well, 19 boxes have been brought to schools around the Corner Brook area.
Meanwhile, Alcock has about 15 more boxes that have to go and anyone interested can reach out to her on facebook.
