Grant Abbott, is a singer/songwriter based in Musgrave Harbour on the Northeast Coast. He recently wrote and recorded a song titled “The Men That Walked The Ice”, based on the 1914 sealing disaster involving the Newfoundland and the Southern Cross .The disaster occurred in March of that year. 132 men were left on the ice for approximately 54 hours, 77 did not survive, 8 were never returned to the boat, and 173 were lost aboard the Southern Cross and never returned. In total, 250 men were lost. He spoke by phone with Dean Clarke on "Sunday Scoffs & Scuffs".
