The WestJet Group is waiting to hear back from the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to intervene under the Canada Labour Code.
Westjet is canceling flights ahead of a potential strike by mechanics and other tech ops employees. The company says this is “in order to park aircraft in a safe and organized manner,” and will minimize the potential for aircraft being abandoned in remote locations. The WestJet Group is waiting to hear back from the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to intervene under the Canada Labour Code. If accepted, both WestJet and the union( AMFA) will be arbitrated for a first collective agreement, which will prevent labour action. The union, Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and other Tech Ops employees, represents over 18,000 people.
