The city of Corner Brook rolled out a new automated garbage collection system last month, and it also includes a dual recycling program where paper and cardboard is collected one week and the next week is metals and plastics. City staff have been busy with calls to the complaints line and according to Katie House of the Western Regional Waste Management, it’s generated more activity on their app this past week. She says people can download the app at wrwmnl for any questions about garbage and recycling. One question is what to do with cigarette packages. The plastic and tinfoil goes in the garbage. House says while some things can be recycled in other places, it can tangle their equipment. Recently, WRWM started accepting vapes at any of their 6 transfer stations or their admin office.
