Water will be trucked into the town's water supply from neighbouring Corner Brook.
The north shore Bay of Islands town of Hughes Brook has been, and remains, under a state of emergency since Friday, due to extremely low water levels in the dam and lack of rain. After this past weekend’s rainfall, which was heavy at times, Hughes Brook residents are still being ordered to conserve water and could face a fine if they don’t. Council also has the authority to turn off water to those who waste it.
However, today, water will be trucked in from Corner Brook to help support the water supply, which is connected to the town’s 60 households. Small bottles of drinking water are also available at the Town Hall for residents who need them.
Scheduled water shut-offs will continue nightly from 9pm to 6:30am and daily from 9am to 3pm. Dam levels are being monitored daily and updates will be provided.
