There’s a unique business on the west coast that offers an accessible Newfoundland Indigenous cultural experience. It’s called “Under the Stump” and it’s located in Rocky Harbour. Owner Trina Reid says the idea started out of necessity since she wanted to give her autistic son a chance to enjoy the backcountry. Tours include storytelling, fishing, foraging, and spiritual belonging all in Gros Morne. Reid says many other families have appreciated this service. She says they start out as friends before the tour but by the time it’s done, everyone becomes a part of the Under the Stump family.
