A couple of west coast College of the North Atlantic students are part of Team NL at the Skills Canada National Competition, taking place until tomorrow in Regina, Saskatchewan. This includes Sam Wellon of the Corner Brook campus and Zachary Caines from the Bay St. George campus. Students are showcasing their talents in skilled trades and technology competitions. Government provided $55K to support TeamNL competitions. Jobs, Immigration and Growth Minister says Newfoundlanders and Labradorians take their trades seriously and score higher in the National Red Seal exams than any other jurisdiction in Canada. Government is also investing $772,550 to extend the Youth Apprenticeship Summer Program until 2027. Byrne says this gives grade 10 and 11 students hands-on experience with in-demand trades through seven-week paid summer placements. As well, government is also investing $300,000 over three years for Skills Canada Newfoundland and Labrador’s new Exploring Green Energy Careers initiative.
