The outage happened Friday and affected many areas of the province.

An investigation is continuing into a widespread power outage that took customers aross the island offline Friday.

Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro says Friday's outage resulted from an Under Frequency Load Shedding event, which occurred following a trip of the Labrador Island Link Transmission Line. The cause of that trip is still to be determined. Meanwhile, NL Hydro says there was no loss of generation and power was briefly lost for about 12,000 customers and restored within 10 minutes or less.

Unrelated to and following that outage, Hydro were also troubleshooting some issues on one of the Holyrood generating Units over the weekend. Both the Labrador Island Link and the Holyrood Unit are now back in service.

In both cases, there were no public alerts, given there was ample reserve on the system.
