Intimate partner violence affects millions of Canadians. On last week’s edition of the Plain Truth, host Paula Sheppard speaks about support that is there for victims. Erica Penney is a Legal Support Navigator with the Journey Project, which is otherwise known as “Clare's law.”
Penney says Clare’s Law was proclaimed in this province in 2023, making NL the third province to adopt the legislation, joining Alberta and Saskatchewan. Penney says the name comes from Clair Wood, a British woman who was murdered by her ex-partner in 2009. Under Clair’s Law individuals have the right to ask for disclosure of information about the risk of experiencing intimate partner violence from a current or former partner. Penney says people can apply for this service online. For more information visit the “Journey Project NL” facebook page.
