NLTA President Dale Lambe says “Education is the foundation of the future of this province, and throughout the course of this campaign, Premier-designate Tony Wakeham made promises to educators and to the people of this province about improving education.”
The President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association is hopeful with a change in provincial government will come a renewed focus and investment in public education. Dale Lambe says “Education is the foundation of the future of this province, and throughout the course of this campaign, Premier-designate Tony Wakeham made promises to educators and to the people of this province about improving education.” This includes reducing class sizes, and tackling school violence, hiring more teachers and classroom supports, and ensuring teaching units are no longer split beyond half-time. Lambe says improving students’ access to school psychologists is a well known issue in education today. He says education must be treated as an investment, not an expense and putting money into our youth affects all sectors in a contributing way.
