The sugar tax collected $12 million.

While it will still take some time to adjust regulatory mechanisms, government is committed to eliminating the sugar tax. Finance Minister Siobhan Coady says this sugar sweetened beverage tax will end on Canada Day. Wholesalers and retailers will be working to get their sales systems adjusted by July 1st. Coady says in the fall, government will make changes to the Revenue Administration Act. Premier John Hogan says while this won’t fix the issue of cost of living,  it will help with affordability.
