A 33-year-old man is facing charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle after two attempts for a traffic stop in Stephenville on Tuesday. At around three o’clock that afternoon, Bay St. George RCMP tried to stop the man, who was driving a dirt bike at a high rate of speed along Gallant Street. Cpl Jesse O’Donaghey says the driver failed to stop and fled from police, who decided not to pursue due to public safety. He says after extensive patrols of the area, police located the operator again on Dump Road, who once again would not stop. O’Donaghey says a short time later, the driver was located and taken into custody without incident. The bike was uninsured, unregistered and was seized by police.
