Premier John Hogan confirmed some homes have burned.

Late yesterday afternoon, another evacuation order was issued for more parts of Holyrood and Perry’s Cove and an alert was issued for Salmon Cove. Speaking to the media at noon yesterday, Premier John Hogan confirmed some homes have burned. Minister of Public Safety John Haggie addressed recent social media posts, one being about a shortage of food for evacuees, which he says is not the case.

RCMP Chief Superintendent Pamela Robinson says people are very anxious and it’s been a very challenging forest fire season. She says there are a number of active fires that have been reported and they are now active investigations, but numbers aren’t adding up. Robinson says people need to report all wildfires, even if they have been extinguished.

A province wide fire ban is now in effect until September 7th.
