Effective Monday, Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Ltd. will temporarily shut down newsprint production. A news release from the company explains this is due to low water levels impacting the ability of Deer Lake Power to supply sufficient energy to operate the Mill. It says, “This critical situation has been caused by extremely low precipitation in the province, resulting in historically low water levels at the Grand Lake reservoir.” The shutdown will last until water levels are restored and during this time, workers will be reassigned to other activities.
