Major Brian Wheeler says there have been over 6300 people in the region helped so far this year and this Christmas, they’ve helped over 1000 people.

This is Salvation Army Week and while there have been many special things to highlight and promote, there has also been a lot of fundraising. On Bayfm with Lenny Benoit Major Brian Wheeler says the 44th annual Gingerbread House at the Valley Mall opened nearly a month ago, and the need for gifts keeps growing, with 313 children registered for gifts so far and applications still coming in.

Wheeler says thousands of people have been helped by coming through the doors of the Corner Brook office. He says there have been over 6300 people so far this year and this Christmas, so far they’ve helped over 1000 people.

Wheeler says people are having to make some hard choices between paying rent or  buying food, and the Salvation Army is there to serve people with a smile.

The Salvation Army Kettle campaign is in full swing with a goal of $110,000 and all that money that stays in this region. Wheeler says the recent weather has likely had an impact on donations, which are about $7K lower than this time last year.  The campaign will wrap up December 24th.
