YMCA Peace medallions are awarded in concert with their David Elliott Memorial Speak-off open to grade six students.
When we hear the words, “Royal Canadian Legion, ” many of us think of peace….something we enjoy today due to the sacrifices or others. This evening in Corner Brook, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 13 will be honored during an event at Club 64. The legion will receive the 2025 YMCA Peace Medallion at a ceremony to start 7 o’clock. Christine Young is the Executive Director of the Western NL YMCA. She says peace has many dimensions and we are all responsible for it.
YMCA Peace medallions are awarded in concert with their David Elliott Memorial Speak-off open to grade six students. Young says Elliott was a volunteer who shared his love for public speaking with those looking to gain confidence. She says it’s one of her favourite events to attend hearing how an eleven year old feels about peace and this builds hope for the future.
The first YMCA Peace Medallion was awarded in 1998.
