Police say individuals are approaching homeowners with offers to complete work and requesting payment or a deposit in advance.
RNC are warning people to be on the lookout for a scam that involves fraudulent agreements to complete property maintenance projects. Police say the Economic Crime Unit (ECU) have received several reports that individuals are approaching homeowners with offers to complete work and requesting payment or a deposit in advance. Cst. James Cadigan says after receiving payment, the individual does not come back to do the work. In each of the reports, the suspect has targeted senior citizens. Cst Cadigan says it’s important to check references and to not make any payment until the work is done.
The RNC requests that anyone with information connected to this scam contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can now provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers Website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com or use the P3Tips app #SayItHere
