Port aux Basques Mayor Brian Button says the town lost a lady who was a strong community member.

Wednesday marks two years since hurricane Fiona hit the shores of NL, sweeping one life out to sea. The south and southwest communities were hit the hardest. Port aux Basques Mayor Brian Button says the town lost a lady who was a strong community member. He says it’s been challenging and frustrating at times but they are getting through it. Button says work is underway now installing armour stone in heaviest hit areas. Upwards of 86 homes in the town were lost due to the hurricane and since then, another 57 homes in a high impact zone have been deemed unsafe.
