The NL Snowmobile Federation is made up of 17 clubs, teams of volunteers who spend hours maintaining over 3,300 kms of trails. This past year, $165K has gone to these clubs to help with costs. Matthew Swain is Manager at the Deer Lake NLSF office. He says clubs also fundraise but the sale of trail passes are the backbone of their operations and recent snowfall has made a difference and people are getting their passes. Early bird pricing is $105 but that will end December 15th, after which a pass will cost $162. Swain says over the last few years, they’ve been concentrating work on making trails more user friendly and smoother, making it easier to access throughout the year for other forms of recreation like hiking and biking. NL has the lowest cost annual pass in Canada.
