The Corner Brook office was open in 1968 or 69.
A number of people came out to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the RCMP at an event in Corner Brook today. Hamburgers, hotdogs, cake and music was served under a blue sky and warm, sunny, rays. Staff Sergeant Joe Anderson says RCMP have been in Corner Brook since the late sixties. “I think they started in NL during the 1950’s,” he says. “ The Corner Brook office was open in 1968 or 69.”
Stf Sgt Anderson says he’s seen some changes since he joined the force 27 years ago. “When I started it was pen and paper but now everything has gone digital,” he says. Jenna Layte is a Qalipu summer student with the RCMP and is based out of Corner Brook. This is the second time she’s been in the program. “This is my second summer and we are hired on to do community outreach,” she says. Layte says she would like to become a mental health and addictions counselor.
