EARLIER STORY: Qalipu Holdings and Lifeline Safety are teaming up to offer basic marine and first aid training. Jonathan Strickland is the director of business development with Qalipu Holdings. He says Mi’kmaq Commercial Fisheries is comprised of 38 fishing enterprises and in the past, they have been leading these courses for members. Strickland says they recently received funding from the Northern Integrated Commercial Fishery initiative and this time, criteria allowed for community members as well. He says this is a great opportunity to get necessary training whether it is emergency first aid, standard first aid or marine basic first aid training.
Cory White of Lifeline Safety says the difference between marine basic and standard training is you are on water, need to know the channels for radio and the types of rescue. There are two classes this week on Thursday and Friday (March 20th and the 2st.) which run from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. For more information email kduffy@qalipu.ca.
