Qalipu First Nations Chief is NL's first Regional Chief at the Assembly of First Nations

    Brendan Mitchell has been serving as the Interim Regional Chief for the past several months and will now assume the role on a full time basis for a three year term.

    Qalipu First Nations Chief Brendan Mitchell is moving to a new job and that means the band will be selecting a new Chief. Mitchell has been selected to represent Newfoundland as its first Regional Chief at the Assembly of First Nations in Canada. Mitchell has been serving as the Interim Regional Chief for the past several months and will now assume the role on a full time basis for a three year term. He has been a member of the Council of Qalipu First Nations since its beginning in 2011 and is currently serving his third consecutive term as Chief. Regional Chief Mitchell is thankful for this opportunity and looks forward to working with community.  He thanks his colleagues for placing their confidence in him and selecting him for this role. The Chief looks forward to transitioning into this position and being a strong and effective advocate for Indigenous issues and opportunities in this Province and communities.” The Newfoundland AFN affiliated Chiefs congratulate Regional Chief Brendan Mitchell on his appointment and look forward to working alongside him for the next three years.
