There’s been a lot of talk about elections lately with a municipal, provincial and federal election on the horizon. But there’s another election that is currently underway on the west coast. On Bayfm’s Qalipu Today this week, the guest was Reesha Knott who is an electoral officer with Qalipu First Nations. She spoke about a by-election that is currently underway now in the St. George’s ward with two candidates vying for the position of councillor, Barbara King and Holy Muise. Voting opened March 12th and closes 8 p.m. March 26th )

Qalipu First Nations members of the St. George’s ward have to be 18 to vote. Knott says all you need is a telephone or a wifi connection. The 24 hour voting window has been available for some time now, and Knott says this helps members who are away cast their ballot.. Results will be shared on qalipu.ca or their social media, as well as, posted at any Qalipu band office.
