Qalipu First Nation has two new employees with the task of being Cultural Wellness Facilitators with a main focus on community. As part of the wellness team under the Health and Wellness department, Tiffany Parsons and Kaylee Sullivan started the job in August. Sullivan says it’s all about building strong Mi’kmaw communities. She says this is open to all demographics and will generate cultural awareness and capacity while taking care of overall wellness, including spiritual, physical and emotional.
Sullivan says they are creating these positions from the ground up and that starts with a small focus like book clubs, which they started last month. She says this may be very small but could have a massive impact by talking about literacy and promoting Mi’kmaw authors. The book club will meet again January 22nd and to register email ksullivan@alipu.ca.
