Quarry materials would be used for road sand and construction projects.

The public has until April 10th to comment on a proposed rock quarry on the Northern Peninsula. Ledonis Limited wants to build a 19.37‑hectare sand and gravel quarry about 3.3 kilometres north of Portland Creek and 4 kilometres south of Daniels Harbour. Quarry materials would be used for road sand and construction projects. Plans were registered with government on March 5th and the Environment Minister is expected to make a decision by April 19th.

Elsewhere, Strangemore’s Electrical Ltd wants to extend the St. Anthony Gravel Quarry. Materials from this 5 hectare rock and gravel quarry would be used as backfill for various municipal construction projects. Also in St. Anthony, the Marine Biomaterial Processing Facility has been given the green light. The project is through Atlantic Biocorp Ltd. and has been released from environmental assessment subject to conditions.
