Furey says there is a calculation problem and a court needs to examine how this is applied across all jurisdictions.
Premier Andrew Furey met last week with the Premier of British Columbia, David Eby. Both Premiers talked about housing, the new green economy, mental health and addictions during the visit. Eby spoke about Furey’s court challenge on equalization and how much money B.C gives to Ontario and Quebec. Premier Furey says the formula for equalization is broken and the 1982 constitution states there should be a comparable level of services at a comparable level of taxation, and from 2010-2023 Maritime provinces received $200 billion in equalization, while NL and B.C. received zero. He says there is a calculation problem and a court needs to examine how this is applied across all jurisdictions. Meanwhile, Furey had a chance to drive a hydrogen powered car for the first time and even filled up a hydrogen station. Meetings wrapped up on Friday.
