Michael Wilson resigned from the Churchill Falls panel in May and his letter basically said there could be a better deal on a power agreement. Wakeham says he will release that letter and release Wilson from his non disclosure agreement so he is free to talk.
Committing to promises to deliver the better healthcare, lower taxes and safer communities, Tony Wakeham is now the 16th Premier of NL. Yesterday he announced the team which makes up the new 14 member cabinet out of 21 MHA’s, saying it was important to have representation from all over the province.
Since the MOU between NL Hydro and Hydro Quebec was signed last December Wakeham has been adamant about having an independent public review. The agreement would scrap the 1969 deal which sold power to Quebec for a very low, fixed price, Quebec would also develop Gull Island and a second power plant, all in a plan that would bring about $200 billion in revenue to both provinces over the next 50 years. Wakeham says he recently met with Hydro officials and says that review is coming soon within the next few weeks.
