Furey says there is still a significant reason for concern across the country and his stance of a team Canada approach hasn’t changed.

Premier Andrew Furey has weighed in on Trump’’s latest tariffs imposed on countries of the world. Trump is rewriting global trade with a ten percent tariff on all countries to start April 5th but Canada and Mexico are facing no new tariffs today. China will face 34 percent tariffs, the European Union, 30 percent and India will face 26 percent tariffs. Furey says while the first notion is to breathe a sigh of relief, it shouldn’t be complete. He says tariffs that existed before are very much in place and there is too much uncertainty with Trump’s announcement. Furey says there is still a significant reason for concern across the country and his stance of a team Canada approach hasn’t changed.

Meanwhile, Furey says while fish harvesters were spared from Trump’s recent tariffs, others were not, like auto workers in Ontario. 25 percent tariffs are still somewhat imposed on Canadian imports, as well as steel and aluminum. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced Canada will match the US auto tariffs, with 25% levies on vehicles imported from there.
