Furey says the times have changed with a shift from nurses wanting full time to a more flexible schedule lately.
Premier Andrew Furey says government is doing everything possible to work with the union to recruit and retain nurses. He says last year was a record year, with 93 percent of new nurse graduates hired by the province. Furey says that’s never been done in the province before and they are the heart and soul of the healthcare system. Furey says the times have changed with a shift from nurses wanting full time to a more flexible schedule lately. The Premier hasn’t changed his stance on hiring agency nurses from outside the province. He says no one wants to use agency nurses and the health authority is working on ways to reduce dependency on nurse agencies. Furey says there are always ways to improve and government keeps an open dialogue with the nurses union to address challenges and issues.
