The union representing workers at Canada Post in Deer Lake will have a special fundraising event in Deer Lake tomorrow. CUPW local president Lorie Williams says it will include a barbecue at the post office between 12-2 p.m. to support the Humber Valley Imagination Library, which is part of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library dedicated to gifting books to children up to the age of five.
Williams says money raised will help pay for the postage needed to get the books to kids in the region. Furthermore, she says the not for profit library is in danger of closing due to lack of donations. They serve an area from Bonne Bay Pond, Wiltondale, Cormack, Reidville, Howley, Deer Lake, St. Judes, Humber Valley Resort, Pynn’s Brook, and Pasadena.. Tomorrow’s event at the post office will also include a life size cardboard cutout of Dolly Parton so people can get their pictures taken.
