Opposition calling for more RCMP officers in light of recent violent crime on the east coast

    Helen Conway Ottenheimer is the opposition justice critic. She says people in Conception Bay North, Trinity Conception and Harbour Grace areas are frightened and do not feel safe.

    The opposition is calling on government to do something about the lack of RCMP officers in light of violent crimes on the east coast recently. From shots being fired on Random Island to last weekend’s murder charges, PC leader Tony Wakeham says there are not enough police officers and he knows the RCMP have asked for extra funding and govt has declined that. Helen Conway Ottenheimer is the opposition justice critic. She says people in Conception Bay North, Trinity Conception and Harbour Grace areas are frightened and do not feel safe. Ottenheimer says it’s time for government to add more police to these areas and if not, there will be more problems in our communities. Ottenhetimer says the RCMP have asked for more members in the province but were  denied. She says officers are being prevented from preventing crimes.
