Plastics must have a "recycling symbol" with the numbers 1, 2, or 5 to be accepted.

September brings fall colours with leaves of oranges, reds, and greens which can also end up on your property. If you're planning on getting rid of those leaves which will end up at Wildcove, they have to be in clear bags so handlers can see what’s inside. Lynn Howse is with Western Regional Waste Management and is a regular guest on Bayfm’s “Trash Talk Thursdays.” Last week,  she also wanted to talk about hard plastics since they are being found during recent audits of trash and include things like a dish tray and toys. They must have a recycling symbol, and the numbers in the symbol have to be 1, 2 or 5.

Meanwhile, Howse says they’re also seeing a lot of used vape pens and next week they’ll be rolling out a new plan to get vapes out of the regular garbage and recycled. An industry partner has sent bins which will be rolled out this week. Meanwhile, cell phones, tablets and batteries can also be recycled through WRWM. On Saturday, September 27th from 9 a,m until 4 p.m. there will be a hazardous waste Collection day at the Wildcove landfill site.
