Specific focus areas include in-field nitrogen management, expanding cover cropping, and implementing rotational grazing practices.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture (NFLA) is now accepting applications from farmers for more than $7.5 million for farm projects to address climate change. The On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF), will support producers in adopting beneficial management practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and store carbon. Specific focus areas include in-field nitrogen management, expanding cover cropping, and implementing rotational grazing practices. These practices also contribute to broader environmental benefits, such as improved biodiversity and soil health. NLFA President Wayne Simmons says “This program aligns with NLFA’s mission to lead the advancement of a diverse, successful and sustainable agriculture industry in our province.” The deadline to apply is October 31st.
