Susan Walsh says west coast seniors have a higher rate of being restrained at long term and personal care homes.
NL’s Seniors Advocate spent some time on the west coast last week and says healthcare and cost of living are the major issues she’s hearing from residents. Susan Walsh visited Benoits Cove, Rocky Harbour, Cow Head and Corner Brook. She says west coast residents have a burden trying to get to healthcare. Over the last three years, Walsh has visited upwards of 80 communities throughout NL. She says from a healthcare perspective there are a lot of concerns with long term and personal care homes. Walsh says west coast seniors have a higher rate of being restrained at these facilities. She says seniors in NL are the poorest in the country with the lowest median income but western Seniors are $2K lower than the provincial average.
