NL Public Libraries has launched the second year of Indigenous Storyteller in Residence Program. As of this week, Ivan J.White has been working from the Stephenville-Kindale and St. George’s Libraries. White is from the Mi’kmaw community of Flat Bay and holds a Master of Applied Literary Arts degree from MUN’s Grenfell Campus, where he discovered his love for Narratology. His programming is not medium specific, doesn’t have to be written, can use music and song, or even sculpture. White currently works at Grefell’s office of Indigenous Affairs as Indigenous Education Specialist. He says growing up in a Mi’kmaq community he’s seen changes since he was a teenager and there’s a “groundswell” where indigenous education is concerned. During his twelve week residency, White will support development and delivery of creative library programming for all ages around Indigenous Storytelling.
