Newfoundland and Labrador is New Brunswick’s fourth largest trading partner when considering two-way trade.

There has been a lot of talk among Premiers lately in light of the importance of eliminating, where reasonable, interprovincial trade barriers. This is an effort to boost the Canadian economy and combat tariffs from the United States,  Last week, Premier Andrew Furey met with New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt signed a Memorandum of Understanding to Improve Trade and Labour Mobility. Furey says barriers have existed for quite some time to the point they need to be reevaluated.

Newfoundland and Labrador is New Brunswick’s fourth largest trading partner when considering two-way trade. Furey says there are trade barriers that can be eliminated especially when it comes to labour mobility more broadly. This was NB Premier Susan Holt’s first visit to NL. She says this MOU will break down interprovincial trade barriers. The Provincial Government has also earmarked $200 million in a contingency fund to support those negatively affected by U.S. tariffs, made changes to Credit Union Regulations, and launched the Seafood Marketing Support Program.
