Newfoundland Power has plans to upgrade a section between Pinchgut Lake to George’s Lake. Government has released the project from environmental assessment subject to a number of conditions. Newfoundland Power must uphold all commitments to mitigate the effects of the project on the environment, including a commitment to consult with Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Ltd. regarding any overlap. The proponent must also submit an Erosion Control Plan that identifies erosion-susceptible areas of the project that occur within the Stephenville Crossing floodplain. As well. Government is asking for surveys for Black Ash and Red Pine to be done before the project starts. Clearing of vegetation cannot happen within 800 metres of a bald eagle or osprey nest during the nesting season (March 15 to July 31) or within 200 metres during the rest of the year.
