Gerry Byrne says the “Primary Residence Property Title Program” is a uniquely innovative game changer.

For 48 consecutive years, no minister, cabinet or government has been able to do anything to fix Crown Lands administration. Last week the Auditor General released a report with serious concerns with the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture’s ability to effectively manage Crown lands' administration. This week, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts announced they will be following up on the AG’s findings and recommendations. Minister Gerry Byrne says the Crown Lands Act was amended in 1977 with the intention to do away with rights to the land they had built their homes on. The AG’s report included recommendations regarding systematic issues, insufficient policies and procedures, as well as confusion about complaints management, enforcement, and inspection processes. Byrne says there have to be allowances made and no one will have to pay full market value. He says changes are coming. Byrne says the “Primary Residence Property Title Program” is a uniquely innovative game changer. It will lower the cost of securing property and ensure people on modest incomes will pay less.
