This includes a new clubhouse at the baseball field, the civic centre from the ‘99 Games, and new turf going on the field at Wellington this spring.

The Mayor of Corner Brook says the city has been in talks with the province for some time, and staff are looking forward to hosting the 2026 NL Summer Games. Jim Parsons says dates have yet to be announced but should take place during late July or August, and there is a lot of planning that starts now. He says the city has the best per capita recreation facilities in the province, a new clubhouse at the baseball field, the civic centre from the ‘99 Games, and new turf going on the field at Wellington this spring.

Parsons says there will be improvements that need to be made and this will require some financial help from government. Meanwhile, Parsons says the city will have the keys to the new recreation centre very soon. He says once they get the keys, the next step is to start moving equipment, furniture and staff in. Parsons  expects the opening day will be in a couple of months.  The $25 million dollar facility includes pools, a fitness area, and a daycare.
