Newfoundland Hydro blames transmission line trip.
A major power outage took tens of thousands of customers from coast-to-coast offline Tuesday evening. According to Newfoundland Hyrdo, the main producer of electricity in the province, a transmission line trip caused a brief outage for pockets of customers on the island. Hydro says this is called an underfrequency load shed, as the system is designed to take customers offline to balance frequency and ensure stability when there’s a sudden trip.
Shrine Club Radio Bingo was being aired on BayFM at the time of the outage, leading to a suspension of the jackpot game mid-game. The jackpot game will continue next Tuesday at 7 p.m. with a recap of the numbers called, before starting the regular week of 5 games. Players are asked to keep their cards from this week.
