She has served as the Federal Minister for Rural Economic Development since 2021 and now has the added role as the Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. Long Range Mountains MP Gudie Hutchings was born and raised in Corner Brook. With over 30 years in business, Hutchings’ community ties have made her a strong advocate for rural areas. She says she’s anxious to get to work. “We all know the great work ACOA does and I am so pleased the Prime Minister has added that to my workload,” she says. “I’m actually meeting with the ACOA team today and excited to be getting to work to continue to find opportunities to grow.” The Minister says many of the issues are the same wherever you go. “I’ve been fortunate to travel the country and the issues are connectivity, and we’re getting that done,” she says. “Workforce labour, immigration, housing, access and transit, as well as capacity of navigating through application processes” Minister Hutchings says we need a greener economy and watch our carbon footprint.
