Linda Chaisson declared next mayor of Corner Brook; 5 new councillors

Chaisson quickly took the lead by approximately 53%.

Linda Chaisson has been declared the next mayor of Corner Brook, taking in over 76% of votes cast. Pamela Gill, who served the last four years as a councillor, was the only other candidate in the mayoral race and took in just over 23% of the votes. It's only the second time in history that a female has been elected as mayor in Corner Brook, the other being Priscilla Boutcher.

Around the council table, only Pamela Keeping will be returning from the previous council. Keeping captured the most votes: 2,613, over 11% of the total. Not all the elected faces are stangers though, with Donna Luther and Donna Wheeler having served previous terms on council.

Corner Brook City Council is comprised of a mayor and six councillors, one of which is traditionally appointed as deputy mayor, based on the highest number of votes. If history repeats itself, that means Corner Brook's mayor and deputy mayor will both be women.
