He has been charged with three counts of criminal harassment, harassing communications, two counts of uttering threats and failing to comply with a release order.
After a lengthy standoff at a home in Port aux Basques on Wednesday, RCMP arrested wanted man 44-year-old Leon Francis. Cpl Jolene Garland says that afternoon police went to a home on Savoury’s Lane after learning that Francis was inside. Francis refused to exit and barricaded himself but Garland says police remained on the scene during two and a half hours of negotiations. RCMP Police Dog Services and RCMP officers from Channel-Port aux Basques and Bay St. George detachments remained in the area while negotiations continued. About two and a half hours later, Francis was arrested without further incident.
